The Fresh Market Inc. is holding the grand opening of its new store in Dulaney Plaza on Aug. 24.
Located on the site of the former SuperFresh at 838 Dulaney Valley Road, the 21,260-square-foot store promises "an inviting atmosphere reminiscent of old-world European markets," according to Craig Carlock, The Fresh Market CEO.
The store will include a bakery that produces 30 breads and 14 varieties of pie daily, a full service meat counter, a selection of ready-to-serve entrées, seafood and more than 200 imported and domestic cheeses, as well as a produce department with more than 400 items and an organic selection.
Carlock said the store will offer a shopping envirnment that includes classical music, soft lighting and an antique décor, "where customers are encouraged to experience the food."
Founded in 1982, privately held Fresh Market currently operates 106 stores in 21 states in the southeast, midwest, Mid-Atlantic and northeast, with plans for continued expansion throughout the country. Towson will be the company's third store in Maryland.
The store will bring approximately 90 new jobs to the area, most of which are being filled locally.
It is also expected to bring more foot traffic to the shopping center, which is across from Towson Town Center and features a variety of tenants, including Ukazoo Books, Chico's, Dulaney Liquors, Ann Taylor Loft and Razorbacks.
Since fall, when the SuperFresh closed, that foot traffic has gone elsewhere when it comes to food.
The site is in close proximity to the Safeway at the Radcliffe Center and Trader Joe's at Towson Circle III, and just a few miles from a Giant Foods at York Plaza and a Giant on Loch Raven Boulevard, as well as Eddies of Roland Park on North Charles Street, Graul's Market in Ruxton and a Shoppers on Goucher Boulevard.
"We look forward to this exciting store coming to Towson," said Lawrence Taubman, managing partner of Taubman Properties, which owns Dulaney Plaza. "We think it will be good for the center and the area."
The doors will open at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 24. Grand opening activities will include chef demonstrations and food sampling throughout the store. A reusable shopping bag and sample-sized bag of the company's gourmet coffee will be free to the first 1,000 customers.
In addition, customers attending the grand opening will be invited to enter into a drawing to win The Fresh Market Pantry. Valued at approximately $1,000, it is a collection of The Fresh Market's TFM-branded items, including spices, stocks, pastas, pancake mixes, gourmet sauces, jams and more.
