The Maryland Public Service Commission will hold a pair of hearings in the coming weeks to receive public comments on the preparedness and performance of Baltimore Gas and Electric duringHurricane Irene.
On Tuesday, Oct. 11, a second meeting will be held in Wohlman Assembly Hall on the first floor of the War Memorial Building, 101 N. Gay St., Baltimore.
Hurricane Irene hit the area Aug. 27-28. At the peak of the storm, approximately 750,000 BGE customers were without power.
The utility company brought crews from across the country to help its own employees restore power to the area, but isolated parts of Baltimore County were still without power as late as Sept. 4 — more than a week after the storm.
The power outages delayed the opening of school in Baltimore County, with some schools postponing the first day of classes for several days. Outages also caused several days of closures for local businesses.
Those who wish to submit written comments may do so through Oct. 17. Only comments that are mailed or delivered by hand will be entered for the commission. Documents sent via email or fax will not be entered into the system.
