Monkton internist opens St. Joseph Health Park in Hereford

There's a new doctor in Hereford, but Hereford isn't new to the doctor. George LaRocco, a Monkton resident since 1979, has opened St. Joseph Health Park on Mt. Carmel Road.

LaRocco is an internist who is now seeing patients, ages 16 and older, in his primary care practice.

"I'm excited to be here in Hereford," he said. "People started coming in as soon as we put up the 'Coming Soon' sign. A lot of my former patients are coming back and it's great to see them again."

LaRocco, 65, had a medical practice in Towson from 1975 to 2005. He left it to become medical director at Northrop Grumman's facility at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

"I loved my practice in Towson, but I needed a change of pace," he said. "I was working 70 hours a week. Those long hours get to you after a while."

At Northrop Grumman, he provided physical exams and medical care for employees and consulted with other physicians regarding treatment of employees across the globe.

He was with Northrop Grumman for five years before the opportunity to practice in Hereford drew him home.

"St. Joseph's has a motto 'Stay healthy close to home,' and I like that," LaRocco said. "I'm glad to be back in a practice. This is what I was meant to do."

He will be in the Hereford full time, 40 hours a week, where he will be able to treat cases of minor trauma, such as stitching lacerations, in his office. When he practiced in Towson, he sent those patients to St. Joseph Emergency Room for treatment.

LaRocco grew up in Chicago and received his medical degree from Loyola University's Stritch School of Medicine in Illinois. He completed his medical internship and residency training at Maryland General Hospital.

LaRocco and registered nurse Cynthia Schaub, who has worked with him since 1976, are members of the St. Joseph Medical Group, comprising primary-care physicians, physician specialists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are part of St. Joseph Medical Center.

His offices are in a 6,000-square-feet building that has been vacant since Aug. 31, 2008, when Greater Baltimore Medical Center closed down its GBMC at Hereford practice.

St. Joseph Health Park is located at 14A Mt. Carmel Road. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday. and Wednesday; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday.
