St. Agnes Hospital announced Thursday that it has agreed to lease 33,000 square feet of office space in Lansdowne Station starting this spring.
The hospital will relocate about 150 full-time employees from space in a business park on the 3700 block of Koppers Street, off Joh Avenue near the intersection at Caton Avenue, according to a release from the hospital.
The hospital would occupy about 60 percent of the three-story, 58,000-square-foot office building at Lansdowne Station, according to the release.
The new quarters on Washington Boulevard will house many of the hospital's health-care planning, marketing, finance and physician administration teams, the release stated.
The commercial space at Lansdowne Station includes retailers such as Wal-MartSupercenter, Petco and Office Depot.
"Lansdowne Station satisfied every essential requirement we designated for this office re-location, most importantly a position close to our existing space to ensure the convenience to our current associates," said Scott Furniss, senior vice president and chief financial officer of the hospital, in the release.
Lansdowne Station is about two miles from St. Agnes Hospital, one of the area's largest employers, about a half mile farther than its current location.
"It was important to us, as an organization, that all of our associates stay in, and connected with, our community," Furniss said in the release.
First District Councilman Tom Quirk, who represents Lansdowne, said in the release that having the St. Agnes employees in the area would be a boon to the surrounding communities.
"The addition of 150 jobs will have a far-reaching effect, since most people want to live within a two- to three-mile radius from where they work," Quirk said in the release. "More importantly, the presence of jobs adds to the foundation of the tax base which, in turn, allows local government to provide necessary resources and service to the local community."
