Press association awards for Arbutus Times, Catonsville Times staff

The staffs for the community newspapers and websites in the Baltimore Sun Media Group, which includes the Catonsville Times and Arbutus Times, won 93 awards at the April 20 in the annual Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association editorial contest.

Staff writer Kevin Rector won first place in the education reporting category for his story about Margaret William's attempt to integrate Catonsville High School in 1936 that appeared in the Arbutus Times and Catonsville Times.

Staff writer Brian Conlin won first-place in the feature-profile category for his story on a Catonsville stone mason that appeared in the Catonsville Times..

He also won second-place in the education reporting category for his story that appeared in the Catonsville Times on the teacher at Mount St. Joseph High School who used Skype to teach his class when his cancer treatment made him too weak to be in the classrom.

Assistant sports editor Craig Clary won first place in the sports story category for his story on the spirit of Catonsville High's football team lighting up the holidays that appeared in the Catonsville Times.

Staff photographer Brian Krista won first place in the general news photo category for his photo that appeared in the Catonsville Times of Hillcrest Elementary School students watching a model rocket launch.

Staff photographer Sarah Pastrana won first place in the photo series category for her photos on the Catonsville Fourth of July parade that appeared in the Catonsville Times.

Former staff writer Steve Schuster won first place in the local government category for his story on the first 100 days in office of County Executive Kevin Kamenetz that appeared in the Arbutus Times, Catonsville Times and other BSMG Baltimore County newspapers.

Former staff writer Jay R. Thompson won first place in the feature profile category for his story on a Korean War veteran that appeared in the Towson Times.
