Vehicles for Change announced Thursday that it will move its operation two miles north from its current site in the 5200 block of Washington Boulevard.

The 13-year-old nonprofit, which refurbishes and sells vehicles to low-income families for as little as $750, purchased the 2.4-acre lot in the 4100 block of Washington Boulevard for $1.35 million, according to a release from Vehicles for Change.

The new facility has a 33,000-square-foot building and a 1.5-acre fenced-in lot, which more than doubles the space of its current location.

As many as 125 cars sit on the lot at its current location, said Robin Yasinow, a spokeswoman for Vehicles for Change.

Before Vehicles for Change moves, it will add a six-bay garage to the site where it can repair donated cars, the release stated.

At its current location, the organization sends cars to third-party garages, the release stated.

To utilize the extra space, Vehicles for Change is considering creating a job training center that would allow students to prepare for careers as mechanics or detailers, the release stated.

The move will end the organization's six-year stay at its current location, according to Yasinow.
