A Lansdowne man has been arrested after a string of purse snatchings in Columbia that began in June, Howard County police announced Tuesday.
Howard County police charged Andrew Deangelo Blackstone, 23, of the 2900 block of Charleston Avenue, with armed robbery, three counts of robbery, four counts of assault, four counts of theft of less than $1,000 and two counts of drug possession.
At about 7:30 a.m. on July 18, a woman walking to her vehicle in a parking lot on the 10400 block of Swift Stream Place was approached from behind by a man who forcibly took her purse, police said.
Just after 8 p.m. on July 9, a woman walking down the hallway of an apartment building on the 10400 block of Swift Stream Place was grabbed around the neck by a man and forced to the ground, police said.
The man kicked her in the back and legs then ran away with her purse, which contained an iPhone, wallet, passport and other personal cards, police said.
Around 9 a.m. on July 3, a woman on the top level of a parking garage on the 10400 block of Swift Stream Place was approached by a man with a knife, who forcibly removed her from her vehicle, police said.
The man then reached into the back seat, grabbed the woman's purse, which contained an iPhone and personal identification, and fled, police said.
Around 9:30 a.m. on June 6, a woman in a parking garage on the 10300 block of Swift Stream Place had her purse stolen as she was putting it in the trunk, police said.
A man came from behind, pushed her in the back and took the purse, which contained an iPhone, iPad, wallet and identification, police said.
Police identified Blackstone, who often stays with a friend on Swift Stream Place in Columbia, as a suspect after increasing foot, bicycle and vehicle patrols in the area of the robberies.
Blackstone is being held on $500,000 bond at the Howard County Detention Center.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
