The second season of the Arbutus Farmers Market opens June 7 with only a few minor changes from last summer's debut.
Patti Sue Nolan, president of the Arbutus Business and Professional Association and organizer of the market, said many of the vendors from last season will return to the market, which will be held every Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Visitors may notice several newcomers on the Southwestern Boulevard parking lot of the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department.
For the first time, Patty's Garden will offer its organic produce and Bonaparte Bakery will sell its French bakery items, Nolan said.
A food truck selling sandwiches may also join the market, if the owners can get proper permits, Nolan said.
Among the returning vendors to the market are crafter Beads by Bettina Design, Art and Cake Bakery, Anderson and Son Seafood, Boordy Vineyards, Woerner Orchards, Stoecker Farms and Dimitri Olive Farms.
Nolan said she hopes to lure to the market more vineyards.
Under legislation signed by Gov.Martin O'Malleylast year, vintners can sell wine at farmers markets up to 12 times each year in Baltimore County and other counties that have passed the legislation.
If all goes to Nolan's plan, the market, which will average eight vendors a week, will see increased traffic thanks to a change to its schedule and a local advertising campaign.
The market will be open until 6:30 p.m. this year, 30 minutes later than last year. That's to accommodate commuters getting off the MARC train at the nearby Halethorpe station. Nolan said many commuters missed the market as a train pulled into the stop at 5:45 p.m.
Attracting more area residents, in addition to those passing through on their way home to work, is another priority, Nolan said on the increased efforts advertising the weekly market to the community.
