Riders of all ages, shapes and sizes — and their machines of the same description — zoomed around the Cow Palace at the State Fairgrounds in Timonium on Saturday, Dec. 10, for the first of two nights of short track motorcycle racing in the Rodney Farris Indoor Short Track Series.

The annual event, which includes a second night this Saturday, Dec. 17, is a fundraiser for the Cockeysville Optimist Club and Baltimore County Trail Riders, and draws racers from across Maryland and from Pennsylvania. Racing categories range from ages 4 to 6 competing with 50cc racers to women's groups, and a "vintage" category for racers age 16 and up.

Open practice sessions are held from noon to 2 p.m., where riders can get some practice on the track for a $20 fee. As for the actual night of racing, the gates open at 3 p.m.; practice sessions start at 4:30 p.m.; and the actual racing beginning at 7 p.m.

Admission is $12, though children younger than 8 are admitted free. The State Fairgrounds is located at 2200 York Road, Timonium. For more details, go to http://www.BCTRA.com.
