Lutherville: Cricket, anyone? If so, head over to Ridgely Middle School for youth program

It's a little early in the year for crickets — but not for the sport.

The Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Council is partnering with the U.S. Youth Cricket Association to host its first-ever summer cricket program at Ridgely Middle School from June 12-July 28.

The cost for the entire program is $30 and players will receive a hat and T-shirt. Sessions will be held Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. and Saturdays, from 9-11 a.m.

This introductory program is focused on fun and learning the game. Some Baltimore County students began playing cricket in school in 2011, and this will be the first opportunity for children to follow up on that experience.

For more information call 240-487-9224 or email info@usyca.org.

For a fun evening for the entire family, come to an ice cream social and meet the puppets of the Grace Puppet Ministry on Thursday, June 21, in Reinheimer Hall at Grace Lutheran Church, Valleyfield Road in Longford North.

Visitors can enjoy skits and songs, play with the puppets and build their own sundae.

For more details and to RSVP, email jnoll@GraceLutherville.org or call the church office at 410-828-5115.

The Fire Museum of Maryland, 1301 York Road, Lutherville, behind Heaver Plaza, has started a new fire rescue game that teaches children how firefighters help people in a fire.

Children take turns "saving" each other from a "burning building" as part of the game. It's held every Friday at 11 a.m. The youngsters perform the rescues in fire gear and with a play breathing apparatus to understand how firefighters work in emergency conditions.

The museum offers a different children's activity at 11 a.m., Wednesdays through Fridays, June through August, followed by a guided tour for all ages at noon.

Wednesday is Children's Crafts Day, Thursday is Story Time and Friday is the Fire Rescue Game. Guided tours are also offered on Saturdays for all visitors at noon.

Hours through August are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults; $10 for seniors and firefighters; and $5 for children ages 2-18. For information, call 301-321-7500, or go to http://www.firemuseummd.org.

On May 24, The Baltimore County Commission on Aging awarded Lutherville Personal Physicians (www.luthervilledocs.com) its Business Partner Award 2011 for its efforts in providing health screenings to seniors in Baltimore County.

The company's participation in the Senior Health Expo and screenings in county senior health centers played a role. The screenings were able to identify disease conditions that required treatment.

Congratulations on the award!

Congratulations to my daughter, Lisa, and her husband, James Yamakawa, on the birth of their third child, Rebecca Christine, born on May 30 — taking us all by surprise a couple weeks early!

She was just fine and weighed in at 6 pounds, 4 ounces. She was welcomed home by big sister Sarah and big brother Jonathan. Becca and family live in Salisbury, where Lisa is a pediatrician.
