Betty and George Schaffner, of Timonium, will celebrate 70 years of marriage on July 18. Betty is a homemaker, and was a "carpool mom" long before the phrase was coined. George is a World War II navy veteran, and retired from the Baltimore City Police Department after 26 years of service. The couple has one son and daughter-in-law, two granddaughters, and one great-grandson.
