The College of Notre Dame of Maryland will hold an open house Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for its Renaissance Institute. Located at 4701 N. Charles St., the Institute is a peer-taught organization for adults 50 and older who come together to share intellectual interests and make new friends.

Renaissance Institute Vice President Bob Fanto said participants will hear from the Institute president and executive director; learn what Renaissance is all about; and hear from six of their peers, who teach some of the courses. Attendees will also have the opportunity to join the organization.

Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays, and range from six to 13 weeks in length. The fall semester runs September to December; the spring semester runs February through May. The annual membership cost of $385 allows participants to take as many classes as they want for both semesters. The group also meets in the summer and winter for potluck dinners, get-togethers and educational field trips.
