Christ United Methodist Church is observing its golden anniversary. For 50 years, members of the church on Florida Avenue have spread the good news by serving the community and engaging in mission work throughout the world.
A celebration of this special milestone will be held Sunday, Oct. 28, at the English Consul Volunteer Fire Department, 2827 Michigan Ave., with a dinner at 5 p.m. and worship at 6 p.m. A walk through the church will highlight old times. Members encourage guests to share in their joy.

August Raveio American Legion Post 195, at 2601 Virginia Ave., will host a Halloween dance from 7 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, Oct. 27. Food will be served 7-8 p.m. Clyde Allen, former lead singer for Past Time, will make a special appearance. Limited open bar, meat loaf, mashed potatoes and lima beans on the menu. Prizes awarded for the best and funniest costumes. Tickets cost $15.

• The legion's annual bull and oyster roast is scheduled for Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11. Dinner served 1-5 p.m. Limited open bar with beer and sodas, pit beef and ham, raw oysters, crab soup, fried oysters, fried chicken, Italian sausage and meatballs, potato salad, coleslaw, green beans, cheese, crackers, fruit, rolls, cakes and coffee. Brownies will do the catering. Tickets cost $40.

Lansdowne United Methodist Church, 114 Lavern Ave., will prepare a roast pork supper from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Adults pay $10; children 6-12 are charged $5; carryout meals, $10. The menu also includes mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans, applesauce, pickled beets, biscuits, dessert and beverage. Homemade candies and pastries will be available at a separate table.
