Baltimore Highlands: Legion post offers steamed crabs and live music Saturday

Sons of the American Legion August J. Raveio Post 195, based at 2603 Virginia Ave., will host its annual crab feast 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, for $37. In addition to steamed crabs and crab soup, beef barbecue, fried chicken, hot dogs with sauerkraut, parsley potatoes, green beans, corn on the cob, coleslaw, potato salad, vegetable tray, watermelon, rolls, cake and coffee with a limited open bar will be on the menu. The C.R.B. Band will entertain.

• The legion will also sponsor a crab night Thursday, Aug. 9, at 5:30 p.m. Happy hour price for beer is $1.25, the same for the crabs, which will be accompanied by corn on the cob.

Christ United Methodist Church, 2832 Florida Ave., welcomed new Pastor Richard Keller, who previously served Fairview United Methodist Church, Cockeysville. He is a young, energetic man who looks forward to making a difference in our community. Join members on any Sunday at 9 a.m. to hear what this man of God has to say.

• On Saturday, Aug. 11, members of the church will root for the Orioles to defeat the Kansas City Royals at a 7 p.m. game. An hour beforehand, a statue honoring Hall of Famer Eddie Murray will be dedicated. The group will leave the church at 4:30 p.m. to catch a light rail train. Tickets cost $6.

• This year's Harvest Festival and outdoor flea market are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. Rent a space with an 8 foot-table for $15 or bring your own table and pay $10. Face painting, ring toss and other children's activities will be available.

• Under the supervision of Mikie Johnson, the church welcomes back Sunday school students at 10:30 am. Sept. 9. Classes are geared from nursery ages to adults.

The English Consul Volunteer Fire Department, 2827 Michigan Ave., resumes the dinner and bingo planned for the second Friday of every month, starting at 5:30 p.m. Otis and Charlie will cook up potluck seafood — $8 for the dinner; $20 for both dinner and bingo. Free rides available, but call in advance.
