The Lansdowne-Riverview recreation councils announce the 2013 Southwest Area Girls Softball League for ages 5-16. Registration fee is $45. Sign up is 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at Lansdowne Elementary School, 2300 Alma Road; and Baltimore Highlands Elementary School, 4300 Annapolis Road, until March 22.
A meeting for coaches and players is scheduled for 6:30-8 p.m. March 25, on the ball fields at Lansdowne High School on Hollins Ferry Road.
The season will begin with a parade April 20.

English Consul Volunteer Fire Department received permission from Baltimore County to burn down houses at 4118 and 4120 Oak Road, in preparation for 90 new homes to be constucted.
On Feb. 16, residents gathered and took pictures of the professional manner in which the firefighters managed this task. At a later date, an official ceremony will initiate the opening of this development.
