Church of the Holy Comforter, 130 W. Seminary Ave., Lutherville, will conduct its annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
This year's event has been expanded to include a variety of pet and family-centered activities — dubbed "Petpalooza."
The event will open with a celebration of animals in our lives, from 9:30 to 10 a.m. The service will be followed by pet activities such as placement of microchips in animals for tracking, rabies shots and pet adoptions, continuing through noon.
There will be giveaways, children's activities and an exhibit with live birds of prey, presented by the Phoenix Wildlife Center.
The church and chapel will be open for tours highlighting the stained glass windows and the religious symbolism of the animals in the church's history.
Mark your calendars for an annual favorite: Grace Lutheran Church's Fall Funfest is Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, Valleyfield Road in Longford North.
The event includes something for the entire family — a moon bounce and other activities for kids, performances by the church's puppet ministry and a visit from the Zoomobile, courtesy of theBaltimore Zoo.
There will be lots of great food on the grill as well as baked goods, apples and cider.

The annual Augsburg Lutheran Home and Village Auxiliary's Shopping Event and Fashion Show will be held Monday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Martin's West, in Woodlawn.
Fashions are by Taylor Marie's Apparel. The event includes a luncheon, silent auction, 50/50 raffle. Also, fashions will be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit residents in need at the Augsburg Lutheran Home.

Day lilies are the subject of the October meeting of the Lutherville Garden Club. Since October is the time to divide and replant day lilies, Bill Soyke's presentation on the plants, including tips on growing day lilies, is quite timely.
The meeting is on Thursday, Oct. 6, beginning at 11 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church on Providence Road.

The Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Council offers youngsters interested in skiing or snowboarding the opportunity to join Ridgely Middle School students in the Snow Club on ski outings on Tuesdays after school, starting Jan. 3.
Six Ski Liberty and one Whitetail trip are planned, all departing from Ridgely Middle School parking lot at 3 p.m. and returning at 9:30 p.m.
"Night Club Cards" purchased through this program are valid every evening at all three local ski areas. Registration is Monday, Oct. 3, and Oct. 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cockeysville Library.
