December is a busy month for Lutherville's garden clubs.
Both the York Manor and Lutherville garden clubs participate in the Christmas decorating at Hampton Mansion, along with other Maryland District III garden clubs. You can see the lovely decorations this weekend at Holidays at Hampton – A Yuletide Celebration – offering special entertainment and tours during the annual open house.
Evening hours are Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., with afternoon hours Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9, from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
If you can't make it to the mansion this weekend, it will remain decorated through the season until the New Year and open normal hours. For additional information call 410-823-1309, Ext. 251, or visit http://www.nps.gov/hamp.
York Manor Garden Club members are creating arrangements to be sold Saturday, Dec. 15, to residents at Mercy Ridge. This special event, offering beautiful and reasonably priced decorations, has become increasingly popular over the years.
The group wraps up its holiday activities with a Christmas party and white elephant gift exchange on Dec. 20.
The Lutherville Garden Club will be focusing on holiday arrangements at its December meeting, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 6.
Floral designer Claire Jones will demonstrate, and members will bring greens from their gardens. At the November meeting, Jones shared her experience in helping decorate the White House last year. She also discussed the application process leading to her selection as a volunteer decorator.
Speaking of all things green, the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company has trees and other greens on sale at the fire station, 1609 Bellona Ave. Residents are invited to stop by to support the local volunteer fire company while picking up some fresh greens for holiday decorating.
Santa has begun making his plans to visit our neighborhoods this holiday season, riding on a Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company Engine.
He'll be coming to the Longford community on Monday, Dec. 10, starting at 7 p.m., and to the Lutherville Community Association area on Saturday, Dec. 17. York Manor is his destination on Sunday, Dec. 20, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Lutherville Community Association has several other holiday activities planned. There is a holiday party for children scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Spangler Hall, 1609 Kurtz Ave., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Later that day residents will gather with friends and family for caroling at 6:30 p.m. on the Spangler Hall lawn.
Bring flashlights; music sheets will be distributed along with the luminaria supplies. It should be a festive evening with houses decorated and illuminated for the judging for the Holiday Decorating Contest as well.
Santa will arrive in Orchard Hills on Sunday, Dec. 9, for the annual Santa at the Circle. Holiday House Decorating judging will take place Monday, Dec. 10, through Friday, Dec. 14. Residents should consult their fliers for specifics on both events.
Don't forget to stock up with homemade cookies for the holidays at St. Paul's Lutheran Church's annual cookie bazaar this Saturday, Dec. 8. Stop by the church's Spangler Hall in Historic Lutherville 10 a.m. to noon, and fill a box of cookies that you select yourself for $10. Don't be late — I hear they sell out every year.
The Longford Community Association is having a community meeting tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 6, during which the election of officers will be held. There are openings for several positions, an opportunity for residents to become more involved in the community.
Please let me know of your club or community's holiday events, and winners from your decorating contest, so I can share them with your neighbors.
