Man, the neighborhood is abuzz these days with all kinds of crazy rumors, from grocery stores to bowling alleys to new eateries to parking garages to new housing developments. Just remember, don't believe everything you hear in the gossip mill (or what some friend of a friend tells you on Facebook).
For example, that rumor about a casino moving into Hampden? I totally made that one up. What, you didn't hear about it? Well, rumor is, there's a casino going to be opening in Hampden.
See how easy it is? Once there's any official news about anything going on, you'll hear about it in the Messenger.
On a related note, renovations continue on the old Hampden Food Market, which is currently slated to reopen this spring as a restaurant called The Food Market. That's what the plywood around the old market is about. And while the building does need a lot of work, the new operators are still hoping to be up and running this spring.
Meanwhile, here are some confirmed upcoming events to watch out for.
On Tuesday, March 6, Royal Baths will play the Golden West Cafe, 1105 W. 36th St., at 10 p.m. Royal Baths are a dark, lo-fi garage/psyche rock-sounding band. And they'll be joined by the future folk stylings of Other Colors and the pop prettiness of Slowdance.
On Friday, March 9, Art for Music hits Antreasian Gallery, 1111 W. 36th St., from 6-9 p.m.. This is just the thing for the old-time rockers out there. Brett Stuart Wilson has been making larger-than-life, built-out portraits of rock icons for years. And this is the show opening.
On Friday, March 16, acclaimed cartoonist John Porcellino will be reading and showing work from his long-running, self-published comic series, King-Cat Comics And Stories, at Atomic Books, 3620 Falls Road. Also, Hampden resident Dina Kelberman, who happens to be a very talented cartoonist (Important Comics) will be reading from and celebrating the release of her gorgeous new book, The Regular Man.
2012 looks to be the Year of Kelberman. Be sure to get in on it early.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
