Clear your sidewalks of snow, then make a date to see the Atomic Dating game [Hampden]

The snowy season is upon us, so this is just a friendly reminder of the importance of shoveling and de-icing not only your steps and walk, but the sidewalk in front of your house or business.

Snow-packed, icy sidewalks, aside from being dangerous in and of themselves, also send pedestrians out into the streets to walk, which even without icy conditions creates safety hazards. And as a frequent pedestrian myself, I can say we don't think highly of the people who live in houses or own businesses who don't shovel their walks.

Your local hardware store should have all the winter supplies you need to get the job done. Plus, Hampden seems to have a nearly unlimited supply of people willing to remove your snow for you for a nominal fee.

Don't be an Abominable Snow Neighbor. Clean off that sidewalk!

This Friday, Feb. 1, is First Fridays in Hampden. Many area merchants will be open late, with special events and refreshments. Atomic Books, 3620 Falls Road, is trying something new. It's the Atomic Dating Game, with me as your host! It's just like the TV show of old, but Atomic Books-style. The winning bachelors and bachelorettes will win a dinner date for two to The Food Market, George's At The Peabody Court Hotel, or the Golden West Cafe. The show gets underway at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Feb. 2, Lee Bains III and The Glory Fires, Harddads and Gutterhooks will be playing the Golden West Cafe, 1105 W. 36th St., starting at 10 p.m..

On Wednesday, Feb. 6, if you are concerned about parking in Hampden, specifically in the area of the Rotunda, you'll definitely want to attend the Rotunda Neighbors' Residential Permit Parking Meeting at 6 p.m., at the Rotunda, 711 W. 40th St.. Baltimore City Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke, as well as representatives from the Baltimore City Parking Authority and Hampden Community Council will be present to hear your concerns. Whether you think paying for restricted hour residential permit parking is a good or bad idea, this group says it wants to hear from you.

And on Friday, Feb. 8, The Wine Source, 3601 Elm Ave., is hosting a whiskey tasting. That's right, I said whiskey. From 4-7 p.m., there's a Bulleit Bourbon tasting with Masker of Whiskey Ewan Morgan, who will also be presenting the newly released 10 Year Bulleit.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Hampden has a number of great and popular restaurants. Don't forget to make your reservations now.
