The son of a Ghanaian father and a English mother who was born in Riverside, Calif., and raised in Hertfordshire, England, literally came out of nowhere when he was cast in Neil Jordan’s Oscar-winning 1992 thriller “The Crying Game." The former Alfred Amey had been discovered at a wrap party in London for Derek Jarman’s “Edward II.” He received a supporting actor Oscar nomination for his enigmatic, sexy performance as Dil, a transwoman who works as a singer and hairdresser. Stephen Rea plays an IRA operative who caused the death of her boyfriend and finds himself attracted to Dil, unbeknownst that he’s really a man, that is until one of the best reveals in cinema history. Davidson’s last film was 1994’s “Stargate,” for which he received a cool million. He now works as a fashion assistant in London.
