Some Like It Hot
Lemmon teamed up with Billy Wilder for the first time they would go on to make five more films together for this sophisticated, wacky 1959 comedy hit. Lemmon plays a musician named Jerry and Tony Curtis is his partner, Joe. Both on the lam from gangsters after they witness a hit, they disguise themselves as women and join an all-girl orchestra. As Daphne (Lemmon) and Josephine (Curtis), they both find themselves attracted to the voluptuous lead singer, Sugar Kane Kowalczyk (Marilyn Monroe). Lemmon received his first best actor Oscar nomination as the blond Daphne who finds himself the object of the affections of a much-married tycoon, Osgood Fielding III (Joe E. Brown). The sight of Lemmon in his dress, makeup and wig, dancing around his hotel room with his maracas, is a sight to behold. And his gender reveal to Fielding at the films denouement is just perfect.
