'The Invention of Lying'

Directors: Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson — The story is set in an alternate reality where no one has ever told a lie – until now. A film exec, previously forced to work within the confines of nonfiction, pretends to uncover a set of lost stories, quickly becoming a master storyteller and a big fat liar.

Why: Gervais is always dependable, even if last year's "Ghost Town" was hot at the fest but cold at the box office. With comedy favorites including Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Rob Lowe and Louis C.K. rounding out the cast, it’s guaranteed to be good for a laugh.

Oscar chances: A comedy hasn't won the best picture Oscar since Woody Allen's "Annie Hall," but we wouldn't put it past Gervais to break a 30-year-comedy dry spell.
