'The Departed' and 'The Godfather,' 'The Godfather: Part II'

Though there are overt references in Martin Scorsese’s 2007 Oscar-winner from “Scarface” and “The Third Man,” his pulsating Irish mob thriller recalls two of the greatest crime films ever made, both of which won the best film Oscar in 1973 and 1975. Though Scorsese’s film is set in Boston and Francis Ford Coppola’s Italian mafia epic spans countries and decades, the themes of fathers and sons, families, corruption and violence dominate all three films.
