For 29 years, Melody has been the beleaguered heroine on daytime's #1-rated soap, yet she has received only one Daytime Emmy nomination for her efforts. From turning tricks to spice up her life when married to the dull-as-dishwater Greg Foster (a john even ended up dead with a heart attack), to becoming a cult member and then a stripper, Nikki's life has never been without excitement. It was without a true love, however, until Victor Newman came to town, took Nikki under his wing and she became the Pretty Woman of Genoa City.
During their tortured 26 years together, they've been married, divorced, remarried and now headed for divorce again, yet Melody has never missed a beat in bringing new life to this character. In the past year, she ran for the State Senate, had some business successes and blunders and found infatuation with another man, while still longing for her true love Victor Newman. Even when they are fighting (either about business or whether a comatose Victoria should have labor induced to save her life), the chemistry between MTS and Eric Braeden is still as fresh as it was in the early 1980s, a strong testament to Melody's unique talents.
Long overdue for Emmy recognition, 2007 was the year that gave MTS a vast array of tapes to finally rectify that inexcusable slight from the academy.
