Adam Larkey / ABC
Though a veteran of soaps for more than 15 years, Laura Wright has yet to be nominated for a Daytime Emmy. She played Ally Rescott on "Loving" and "The City," followed by eight years on "Guiding Light" as stripper-turned-princess Cassie Winslow. She left that show in 2005 to assume the role of Carly Benson Corinthos on ABC's "General Hospital," for which she has received a 2008 pre-nomination for outstanding lead actress. Carly, a fiercely loyal, brashly impulsive mother of two, is an emotional roller coaster, so it's no wonder that the role earned three Emmys for Sarah Brown (in 1997, 1998, and 2000) and a nomination for Tamara Braun (in 2004).
The long-suffering Carly suffered some more in 2007. Though married to nice-guy Jasper Jacks (Ingo Rademacher), she hasn't escaped the violent world of her mobster ex-husband Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). She was held hostage in her own hotel. Her nanny was murdered. And her life was threatened by a serial killer. Her pre-teen son Michael (Dylan Cash) has started to believe that violence is the answer.
No rest for the weary: In 2008, Wright has played Carly through a factory explosion, a miscarriage, and plenty more motherly turmoil, so she can probably look forward to another pre-nomination next year.
