'Crash' and 'Grand Hotel'
The surprise best picture winner of 2006 features an all-star cast including Brendan Fraser, Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Terrence Howard, and Matt Dillon in a racial drama revolving around 36 hours in the lives of several Los Angeles residents who are brought together by a car crash. Best picture winner “Grand Hotel,” which was released in 1932, was the first all-star cast movie. MGM’s biggest players including Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery and John and Lionel Barrymore headlined this drama about the diverse visitors whose paths cross at a plush German hotel.
