Stars, stripes and hot dogs

Every Fourth of July, competitive eaters converge upon Coney Island to take part in the annual Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, including reigning champ Joey Chestnut and his Japanese nemesis Takeru Kobayashi (who didn't compete at the 2010 competition due to a dispute with the Major League of Eating but was arrested by NYPD instead). You don't have to be a professional gurgitator, however, to enjoy the nice snap of casing around processed meat. Amateur celebrities also love to pay homage to the dog. --Hanh Nguyen, Zap2it Related: Takeru Kobayashi arrested at hot dog contest Joey Chestnut four-peats East 'meats' West at hot dog contest Mustard Belt Rematch: Hot dog-eating contest Nathan's hot-dog eating champ Joey Chestnut discusses his craft
