This Friday evening will be the February “First Friday” gathering in downtown South Bend, with planned public events and specials at downtown restaurants, businesses and art venues.

The theme is “Shiver on the River” — although no snow is expected and temperatures are likely to drop only into the 30s that evening, according to forecasters.

Here’s a list of some of the scheduled events:

  • 5 to 8 p.m.: Free hot chocolate will be available at several locations, including DoubleTree by Hilton inside the 1st Source Center; Inspire Me!, 520 E. Colfax Ave.; Junk Evolution, 528 E. Colfax Ave.; South Bend Chocolate Cafe, 122 S. Michigan St.; and Artpost, 216 W. Madison St.

  • 5:30 to 9 p.m.: “Meet Me in the Gallery” gathering at South Bend Museum of Art. Jazz vocals by Priscilla Phillips and an exhibit of the 2012 Scholastic Art Award works by area middle- and high school students. Admission for $5 per day; children 12 and younger are free.
  • 5 to 9 p.m.: Fiery Food Fest at Piser Designs, 516 E. Colfax Ave. There will be free sauces, curries and other spicy foods. Guests are welcome to bring their own spicy food to share.
  • 5 to 9 p.m.: Free Transpo trolley rides, with marked stops at six spots downtown.
  • 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Concert by rocker Don Savoie at the East Bank Emporium Restaurant, 121 S. Niles Ave.
  • 6 to 8 p.m.: Ice carving exhibition on East Colfax Avenue near Hill Street. Ice carver Don Weber will display his craft.
  • 7 p.m.: At Artpost, reading and booksigning by poet Groshonda McDonald Fitzpatrick from her book “In the Process.”
  • 7 to 10 p.m.: Ice skating at Howard Park Ice Rink. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for children and free for kids 5 and younger. Skate rental is $3.
  • 8:30 p.m. Fireworks over the river
