An explosive end to the court drama surrounding pop star Rihanna and ex-beau Chris Brown as the R&B singer copped a plea deal in his assault case.

Rihanna and Brown reunited in a Los Angeles courtroom Monday afternoon as Brown's preliminary hearing on assault charges - stemming from allegations that he beat the Barbadian beauty in February - got underway. Instead of doing time behind bars, Brown pleaded guilty to a felony, and will receive six months of community service in addition to five years probation.

The ex-flames entered the courtroom separately for the 1:45 p.m. hearing, with Brown showing up with his mother by his side. The main focus of the day was for the judge to determine whether or not there is enough incriminating evidence in order to proceed a full trial against Brown.

There were even reports Rihanna herself was going to take the stand to testify in the case.

Brown has pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting and making criminal threats against his one-time gal pal Rihanna. Brown is accused of beating Rihanna in the early hours of Feb. 8 following a heated argument between the two after a pre-Grammy party.

A few days later, photographs of the beaten songstress surfaced, showing her brutal injuries that included swollen eyes, mouth and bruises all over her face.

If Brown violates probation, he could get up to 4 years in prison.
