Carroll Park is a pleasant surprise. Hidden in a highly-industrial area of Baltimore, Carroll Park is a lovely, grassy escape amidst a sea of buildings. The park is home to the Mount Clare Mansion, the oldest existing colonial structure in Maryland. The park is named after Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and former landlord of 800 acres in the Patapsco River area. Carroll built Mount Clare in 1760, and the museum still contains more than 1,000 artifacts from Carroll's era. This gorgeous mansion is the highlight of Carroll Park, but the clean, lively Carroll Park itself is much nicer than most in Baltimore City. The park also has two baseball diamonds, a huge tennis area with six courts and a playground.
