'Serial' optioned for TV by Fox production company

Possible TV series won't deal with Baltimore case.

Fox 21 Television Studios, a Fox-owned production company, has optioned "Serial" for a possible TV series, according to Deadline.

The TV production would offer a backstage look at the making of a podcast.

The series would not cover the Baltimore case done during the first season of "Serial," which involved re-examining the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee by her boyfriend Adnan Syed who was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted in 2000.

The podcast became a pop culture hit in its first season, topping the iTunes charts. The podcast was co-created and hosted by Sarah Koenig.
