Perennial Razzie favorite Adam Sandler had another banner year when it comes to bad movies, landing 11 nominations in the race for the worst of Hollywood 2011.
The comedian's record-destroying total included his work in or for three films: "Jack and Jill,"which he starred-in, wrote and produced; "Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star," which he co-wrote and produced; and "Just Go With It,"in which he co-starred with Jennifer Aniston.
One of those nominations includes Worst Actress, for the cross-dressing comedy "Jack & Jill." Among his competition: former Alaska governor and GOP vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, for the documentary "Sarah Palin: The Undefeated."
Only in the world of the Razzies...
Two of Sandler's films -- "Jack & Jill" in which he plays fraternal twins, one male, one female, and "Bucky Larson," a comedy about a would-be porn star -- were nominated for the Worst Picture of 2011. Other nominated films include"New Year's Eve,""Transformers: Dark of the Moon"and "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I."
In addition to the two producer nods, Sandler scored nominations for Worst Actor ("Jack & Jill"), Worst Actress ("Jack & Jill"), Worst Screen Ensemble (the entire cast of "Jack & Jill"), Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel ("Jack & Jill," which the Razzie folks deemed a remake/rip-off of Ed Wood's "Glen or Glenda." and "Bucky Larson," seen as a rip-off of "Boogie Nights" and "A Star is Born"), Worst Screen Couple (Sandler and either Aniston or Brooklyn Decker in "Just Go With It," Sandler and either Katie Holmes, Al Pacino or Sandler himself in "Jack & Jill") and Worst Screenplay ("Jack & Jill" and "Bucky Larson").
Until now, Eddie Murphy had been the standard-bearer for cinematic awfulness, with five razzie nominations in a single year. It's doubtful either Sandler or Murphy will be including their Razzie accomplishments on their resumes.
Other nominees for Worst Actor are Russell Brand ("Arthur"), Nicolas Cage (for the tri-fecta of "Drive Angry 3D," "Season of the Witch" and "Trespass"), Taylor Lautner ("Twilight" and "Abduction") and Nick Swardson ("Bucky Larson").
In addition to Palin and the omnipresent Sandler, Worst Actress nominees include Martin Lawrence ("Big Momma's Like Father, Like Son"), Sarah Jessica Parker ("I Don't Know How She Does It" and "New Year's Eve") and Kristen Stewart ("Twilight").
Razzie nominations were determined by tabulating ballots sent to 657 members of the Golden Raspberry Foundation.
Razzie "winners" will be announced April 1. Wonder how many voters will actually sit through all the nominated awfulness before casting their ballots?
