As fine as he was playing Jimmy McNulty in "The Wire," Dominic West certainly hasn't let that role define him.
He's played Henry Higgins in an English revival of "My Fair Lady" and Iago opposite Clarke Peters' Othello.
He starred in BBC America's outstanding drama "The Hour." And now, he's playing Richard Burton in another BBC production opposite Helena Bonham Carter as Elizabeth Taylor.
Here's a picture of the latest version of Hollywood's famous couple. It was released Tuesday by BBC.
Check out the interview I did with West earlier this year. There's a link at the left of this post. When I talked to him, Rachel Weisz was supposed to play Taylor.
So it goes in the world of made-for-TV movies. Either one has got to be exponentially better than Lindsay Lohan, right?
I am actually looking forward to this production based on my respect for West and Bonham Carter.
Here's the BBC release:
The first photo has been revealed today of BBC AMERICA’s Burton and Taylor, starring Dominic West (The Hour, The Wire) and Helena Bonham Carter (Lone Ranger, The King’s Speech), as Hollywood’s most famous volatile on-again-off-again lovers, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. The 90-minute drama follows their private and public relationship played out against their ill-fated appearance in a 1983 revival of Noel Coward's stage play, Private Lives. Burton and Taylor premieres this fall on BBC AMERICA.
Written by William Ivory (Made in Dagenham, Going for Gold), Burton and Taylor is a BBC Drama Production for BBC Four and co-produced by BBC AMERICA. The drama is distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.
Burton and Taylor is one of the most fascinating, glamorous and tempestuous relationships of the 20th century - the two most famous movie stars of their day who played out every high and low of their love affairs, multiple marriages and divorces right in the public eye.
The executive producer for the BBC is Jessica Pope. The director is Richard Laxton (Effie, Him And Her, Hancock) and the producer is Lachlan McKinnon (Silent Witness).Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
