The facts of the case seem almost too brutal and cruel to bear.
When a small boy in Bangladesh refuses the demands of a gang that wants to use him as a beggar, he is beaten and mutilated within an inch of his life. His throat is cut, his skull is bashed in and his penis is amputated.
Sara Sidner, a correspondent for CNN International, tells the story of this boy and his family in an "Operation Hope" report that premieres this weekend.
Fox News and MSNBC have virtually no international correspondents to speak of. They certainly have no correspondents doing work like this: bearing witness to the horrors of this world, and the efforts of a few good people who try to redeem the suffering.
I dare you to watch any part of this sensitive, intelligent and powerful report, and then come back and tell me MSNBC or Fox News, God forbid, is even on the same planet as CNN International.
Here are two clips that give a strong sense of the hourlong report.
Verizon users in the Baltimore area can watch it on Channel 105 at 4 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday and also at 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday.
It will be streamed online starting Monday at: www.cnn.com/freedomCopyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
