A report at cnn.com on the first day of jury selection in the trial of William Porter -- one of six Baltimore police officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray -- was changed Monday night to delete a phrase describing Gray as "the son of an illiterate heroin addict."
An editor's note was added at 7:30 p.m. when the deletion was made. It said: "A reference to Freddie Gray's mother was removed from this story because it appeared out of context."
CNN declined a request for further comment Tuesday afternoon.
You can read the amended CNN piece here. It is written by Ann O'Neill and Aaron Cooper.
The description of Gray's mother and subsequent deletion was first reported by Vox.
Correction: An earlier version had the wrong time for when the editor's note was added. A CNN spokeswoman wrote in an email that two changes were made to the story: One to delete the phrase and add the note, and another to correct a spelling mistake.
