Kelly tops my list as best moderator because early in August during the first debate she asked a pointed question of Donald Trump regarding derogatory comments he had made about women. Trump fired back, but Kelly didn't flinch -- even when he tried to Twitter-mob her with his social-media lemmings for days on end after the debate.
Overall, the TV press has behaved shamefully in kowtowing to Trump because of the ratings he brings. But not Kelly. She was tough, fair and professional in that first debate as she questioned Trump, setting a standard that I wish others had followed.
Simply put, she tried to do the kind of public affairs journalism that so many others at cable news channels and networks are not doing when it comes to Trump.
