Police chief, TV stations lauded
CENTRAL FLORIDA - Daytona Beach police Chief Mike Chitwood and two local television stations are among the first 28 recipients of the AmeriCan Spirit Award from MySafeKids.org. Recipients were honored for making an extraordinary difference in the lives of Americans.
Chitwood is scheduled to receive his award today at the Daytona Beach Police Department.
WKMG-Channel 6 and WESH-Channel 2 also were named on the list that includes state Attorney General Bill McCollum, Barbara Walters, Bill O'Reilly, Clint Eastwood, Dr. Phil, Jay Leno, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif., Martha Stewart, Regis Philbin, Montel Williams, the late President John F. Kennedy, the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., and military and deployed personnel.
