It is getting down to crunch time on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, and Mario says he needs your help, Baltimore.
"I think sometimes when you have a really good score, people think you don't need the vote -- so they vote for someone else who they like in the competition," the 21-year-old Baltimore-born performer said, referring to last week when he and partner Karina Smirnoff danced to one of the highest scores but came within one couple of elimination.
"But I definitely could use some help, Baltimore. Thanks to those of you out there who have voted for me to stay in the competition. And please continue to vote. I guess the high scores are not enough," he said in his weekly Sun interview.
Mario's Baltimore roots were featured on last week's show via videotape of a telephone call between Mario and a younger brother who lives here. An audience of 17.2 million saw the telecast, making it the second-highest rated program of the week behind Fox's American Idol.
In tonight's competition, Mario and his partner will have to perform two dances: the foxtrot and the mambo. He's worried about the foxtrot.
"It's tough, because I'm not really a fan of foxtrot. I feel like the mambo fits me a lot better -- it's a fun dance with a lot of movement, and it's really, really fast," he says. "The foxtrot is very slow and very formal. But, hey, I have to do it, and I'm going to give it my all. I didn't come this far to give up."
