Bryan Voltaggio: Closing Family Meal in Baltimore 'was no easy decision'

Lemon stick

FlowerMart, the grande dame of Baltimore's spring traditions, began in 1911. With only a few exceptions -- thanks to World War I, civic unrest and quarreling among the organizers -- it has been held in the shadow of the Washington Monument every year since. While flowers may have given the event its name, it's the delicious, soothing lemon sticks -- a stick of peppermint stuck into a fresh-cut lemon -- that give the FlowerMart its flavor.
