In a pre-Cannes package announcement, Nicolas Cage is checking in to indie thriller "Hotel 33″ with newcomer Kellie Madison on board to direct.
Foresight Unlimited will handle international sales at Cannes for "Hotel 33," with Randall Emmett and George Furla producing. Envision Entertainmentâs Remington Chase, Stepan Martirosyan and Vitaly Grigoriants, and Foresightâs Mark Damon are exec producing along with Malek Akkad.
Open Road will distribute the film in the United States.
The film centers on the aftermath of an urban legend about the disappearance of 32 people on the opening night of a hotel in Williamsport, Pa., in 1953. Cage will play a detective investigating the vanishings while four teenagers break into the now-abandoned hotel for a night of festivities.
âUp-and-coming talent Kellie Madison has done a wonderful job in giving the script a seriously terrifying tone,â Damon said.
Cageâs upcoming films include David Gordon Greenâs southern drama "Joe" and Lionsgate's "The Frozen Ground."
Madison wrote the screenplay for Anchor Bay Entertainmentâs "Dear Mr. Gacy," starring William Forsythe. "Hotel 33″ will be her feature directing debut.
Foresight, Emmet/Furla and Envision teamed on "2 Guns" and "Lone Survivor."
