"Top Dogs and Their Pets," photography by David Woo and Richard Pruitt; Parapet Press (208 pages, $29.95)
This coffee-table book by two long-time Dallas Morning News photographers is one sure way to please the animal lovers on anyone's holiday gift list. "Top Dogs and Their Pets" depicts a variety of famous people photographed with their animal companions, ranging from dogs to goldfish to an iguana (!). The humans include various Bushes (Georges H.W. and W., Barbara and Laura), former Dallas Cowboys (Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett), rodeo cowboys (Larry Mahan, Ty Murray), actors, musicians and assorted celebrities (Dr. Phil, hero pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger).
The portraits are combined with Q&A's and a forward by Diane Rehm, host of public radio's "The Diane Rehm Show." (She's also pictured in the book with her dog, a long-haired Chihuahua.) "Top Dogs and Their Pets" can be ordered online at www.TopDogsPets.com; portions of the proceeds will go to the Cesar & Ilusion Millan Foundation, which offers financial support and rehabilitation expertise to pet shelters and rescue organizations throughout the United States.
