I'm catching up after having a week out of the office, but here's a look at this week's events at Orlando's theme parks and attractions.
+ The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival begins Wednesday. Flowers and topiaries have been slipping into place for a while, but Wednesday is the official start and the park should be in all its floral glory -- including a "Fantasia"-based centerpiece up front -- by the start of the day on Wednesday.
HGTV personalities return to the festival for design presentations. This year begins with John Gidding ("Curb Appeal"), who will speak Friday, Saturday and Sunday at noon and 3 p.m. in the Festival Center over in Future World.
And the festival's Flower Power concert series begins with Jose Feliciano, who will perform at the America Gardens Theatre on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 5:15 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
The festival offerings are included in regular Epcot admission. The event runs daily through May 20.
+ The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man attraction at Universal's Islands of Adventure reopens Thursday. It has been closed for about a month while being retooled with an enhanced high-definition version of the film and other changes. (The plot remains the same.)
+ The Real Music concert series continues at Busch Gardens in Tampa with Rita Coolidge on Wednesday through Saturday. Show times are 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day. The concerts are included in theme-park admission.
+ Big Time Rush, the four-man band with a Nickelodeon show called "Big Time Rush," is the musical guest for Universal Studios' Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday. The traditional, bead-heavy parade starts at 8 p.m., followed by the concert at 8:30ish. They are included in regular theme-park admission.
+ Silver Springs will play host to rock band Styx ("Come Sail Away," "Too Much Time on My Hands") on Saturday. Concert time is 3 p.m., and it's included in park admission.
+ Adventure Island, the water park adjacent to Busch Gardens, reopens for the season on Saturday. More information, including ticket offers and operating hours: www.adventureisland.com.
