Leno's days on 'Tonight' are numbered
Jay Leno's last Tonight show will be May 29; Conan O'Brien will take over for him the following Monday, June 1, NBC Entertainment co-chairmen told a Television Critics Association meeting yesterday.
NBC is angling to keep Leno with the network but the late-night king has indicated he's ready to jump ship. NBC competitors, including other networks and syndicators, are eager to have him.
Jimmy Fallon is poised to take over Late Night in March or April, Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff said. O'Brien will wrap his Late Night run in the first quarter of the year, the executives said. O'Brien reruns will be used gap until Fallon takes over.
