Kennedy stars as an elementary school breakdancing wiz whose signature move lands him in a coma for 20 years. He wakes up with the mind and the wardrobe of a 13 year-old '80s fashion victim. Hilarity tentatively pops its head in, but doesn't full-on ensue.
In fact, only two elements stand out here: A single gag involving a suicide attempt using Pop Rocks and Pepsi and "Smallville's" Michael Rosenbaum, who could use this movie as a reel to convince someone to cast him the long-planned "Fletch" remakethat's how well he channels Chevy Chase at his smarmiest (in other words, the "funny" Chevy). It's a valiant effort, but a wasted one.
Fortunately, most of PG-13 gags will survive the cut when "Old Skool" inevitably finds its true home on TBS in…well, let's say a month or so.
