Suspended Brewing Company begins tours in Pigtown with hopes to open fully in February

Suspended Brewing Company began giving tours of its Pigtown facility last weekend as the Baltimore beer company gets closer to opening to the public.

The 20-person tours were sold out the first weekend — with four on Saturday and four on Sunday, said president Yasmin Karimian. The tours offered visitors a chance to taste samples of beers created by brewer Josey Schwartz, including a hazy India pale ale, New England-style IPA and a stout, among others. Suspended is offering tours this weekend as well.

The response has been motivating for a project that’s been in the works for more than a year, Karimian said.

“It’s funny, when you’re in the weeds, you don’t really realize people are excited for stuff,” Karimian said.

Suspended’s permit allows the company to give tours and provide beer samples, along with full to-go beers of growlers and crowlers, Karimian said. On Feb. 8, Suspended will have its Baltimore liquor board hearing date that will determine whether they can open the taproom and serve full beers.

If the board approves the request, Suspended hopes to announce a grand opening date for later in February, Karimian said.

It’s taken a long time to get to this point, she said, but the response from Pigtown residents and businesses has made it worth it. Neighbors helped create the exterior signage and tables with reclaimed wood, Karimian said, which falls in line with Suspended’s goals to minimize its environmental impact.

“The community has really come together and supported us, and we couldn’t be more excited about that,” she said.

Tickets for tours can be purchased online, and admission costs $12. The price includes six three-ounce pours of the attendee’s choice.
