It's unclear who decided miniature trains were synonymous with the holidays -- after all, they weren't even around for the first Christmas, and Santa rides a sled. But nobody around here's complaining, especially not when the B&O Railroad Museum houses one of the best train gardens to be found. In fact, the annual Holiday Festival of Trains and Toys includes several different gardens, including one made entirely of Legos and, new this year, one featuring holiday memorabilia once owned by the late William Donald Schaefer. There's also live entertainment, a crafts workshop, even a postal station for kids to send their letters to Santa. And not only can you visit with Santa here, you can ride the train with him, too. The celebration begins at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 25, with the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus at the museum roundhouse, and runs through Dec. 31. The B&O Railroad Museum is at 901 W, Pratt St. Admission to the Holiday Festival of Trains & Toys is $8-$14. For information, including Santa's schedule: 410-752-2490 or borail.org.
