The two flagship beers from Woodberry's Union Craft Brewing Company — Duckpin Pale Ale and Balt Altbier — will be sold in 12-ounce cans in Baltimore city retailers by Friday, according to co-founder Jon Zerivitz. The cans will be sold in other areas of Maryland and Washington in the next few weeks.
The brewery recently acquired three new 60 barrel tanks, which increase its brewing capacity by 75 percent. The expansion explains why UCB can now sell its beer in cans, Zerivitz said.
"This has been in the plans since day one," he said. "We just had to wait for the right time."
A few of the first city stores to receive shipments of UCB canned beers will be The Wine Source in Hampden, Pinehurst Wine Shoppe in Bellona-Gittings and Canton's Bo Brooks Lighthouse Liquors.
Since its founding in 2011, UCB has found homes for its drafts in many local bars. Last fall, the Balt Altbier won gold at Denver's Great American Beer Festival in the German Style Altbier category.
The UCB was the first production brewery to open in Baltimore City in 30 years. For more information, check out unioncraftbrewing.com.
