2012's Top 20 songs from Baltimore artists [Pictures & Videos]
It's easy to forget, but Baltimore's beyond-diverse music scene makes other cities jealous. For such a relatively small, tight-knit community, it constantly evolves and reinvents itself with fresh music and voices each year.
Our artists, even the "cool" ones, are mostly outliers, crafting the music they want to hear first and hoping everyone else likes it later. As this list of the 20 best songs from local musicians suggests, it's a fruitful process. Consider it a reminder that we're spoiled as fans. -- Wesley Case | @midnightsunblog

1.) Future Islands, "Tomorrow"( Sanskavit's YouTube page )
While 2011's "On the Water" was a predictably solid effort from the Baltimore-via-North Carolina synthpop trio, Future Islands' third album lacked a standalone showstopper.
"Tomorrow," the A-side to a 2012 seven-inch record the trio released on London's Upset the Rhythm, would have fit the bill: Emotive, soulful and cathartic, it's a slow-paced ballad for a band more known for its danceable grooves. But when singer Sam Herring becomes unhinged -- half-screaming, half-evil guffawing -- two minutes in, it becomes an unmistakable classic for one of the city's most consistently great bands.
