All too often on New Year's Eve, we find ourselves in the basement of a friend of a friend's house, drinking $7 bottles of champagne and thinking "Why is this holiday so disappointing?"
Not this year. Baltimore has too much to offer. We've rounded up a variety of New Year's Eve events so you don't have to spend another year falling asleep on the couch. These 12 celebrations range from elegant and chic to local and fun to crazy and wild. This is the New Year's Eve we all deserve. (Jerry Jackson, Baltimore Sun photo)
The last Tipsy?Taxi! service provided in Maryland was for July 4 of this year. The service was established in 2006, and it gave free taxi rides during popular holidays known for their partying. Averella says one of the main reasons for the suspension was lack of funding. The program's grant had run out in July, she said.
In a few months, AAA -- along with Yellow Cab and the Maryland State Highway Administration -- will review the program, Averella said. There is no word on if or when the program will return.
Averella sent a press release this afternoon to remind others of the suspension. She says she saw news outlets reporting Tipsy?Taxi! would be running in Maryland on New Year's Eve, and felt the need to dispel the claim. She also reiterated that Maryland and the mid-Atlantic region does not have AAA's Tipsy Tow service either.
