Raekwon, arguably the Wu-Tang Clan's most relevant rapper at the moment, brings his "Unexpected Victory" tour to Sonar on Friday.
As long as the 42-year-old rapper — who remains a gritty and gifted storyteller years after most MCs hit their creative expiration dates — performs songs from his classic album, "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx," this is a no-brainer.
Rae operates as a living legend, but he's not grasping for relevancy like many of his forgotten peers. The Staten Island native also known as the Chef can hop on a Justin Bieber remix with Kanye West, and still pump out the slick-talking gangsta stories like the ones found on his mixtape from earlier this year, "Unexpected Victory." Expect a strong mix of old and new on Friday night.
Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are available here ($20 in advance; $23 day of). Maino, JD Era and more will open.
